awkward & awesome thursday- thrift edition

I have decided to revamp Awkward & Awesome Thursday just a tad for the day. With my sister & niece in tow I visited two local consignment shops and took photos of some of the goodies that I found. The good, the bad, and the insanely awesome.

I'm not even going to label anything, just decide for yourself. Without further ado:

80s prom dress

intense sequin action

This is a push cart, but it reminds me of a wheelchair that you would have seen in A Secret Garden.

I definitely had a girl version of this after I split my head open when I was, like, 4 years old. I think I loved her.

Handmade sweater clips. I wish I could have gotten some close-ups.

I think we can figure out which category this glorious head falls into.

The mannequin in the back just makes this photo even better.

All the hats were teeny tiny... or my head is abnormally large. No, the hats were the freaks.

With new upholstery, this looks like it wants to come home with me.

This whole thing was sequined.

Vintage aprons. They're awesome, let's not kid ourselves.

This was labeled as a "black bonnet" and had a price tag of $42.50.

I'm going back for these tulip earrings. They want to be mine. Their dealer is "Nana" and even she wants me to have them.

This Mickey view master is very large & I didn't see any discs to go with it.

This owl cookie jar has been at the consignment shop for almost 6 months now. WHY IS NO ONE BUYING THIS?!

I think this beaded collar was handmade because everything around it was & it seems to make sense.

What do you think, peoples? Which things are awesome & which are awkward according to you?

wednesday of wanting

I have nothing planned for today and I don't feel like wearing much more than a pair of jorts & fabulous top. I'm probably the only person who will think this top is fabulous, but whatever. :)

Instead, you get to see some of the clothes & shoes that I'm currently lusting for:

new career?

I had a moment. It was a brief moment, but a moment nevertheless. What was this moment you ask? It was the moment I decided that I'm not just growing out my hair but also my bangs. This lasted about 2 weeks and then my bangs started getting all curly, disheveled and downright frightening.

Normally I go to the one & only Michelle {a.k.a Michelleeeee or My-Chelly if you're pretty much sisters} for my haircuts, but the madness was just too much to bear. After perusing my old issues of Bust, I came across an article on a DIY bang trim. I grabbed my sharpest scissors, put a towel down over the sink and went to work. The last time I trimmed my own bangs was in 7th grade so you can probably imagine how frightened I was about how they would turn out.

They aren't so bad, right? Have I found a new career trimming bangs? Perhaps... perhaps.

Just a Snapshot

I apologize for neglecting my blog. There’s no real excuse for it other than I just haven’t felt particularly inspired to write about anything. My summer days have been spent watching my niece & nephew for 8 and 9 hours a day. I love them dearly and they’re full of spirit and hilarious quotes, but I don’t want to dedicate weeks worth of posts to their adorable antics. I’ve also been a little down lately trying to figure out my job opportunities for next year {there don’t seem to be any!} so thanks for sitting tight & waiting so patiently.

Here is a snapshot of my days that you missed:

Summer School
I’ve been teaching a summer class/author study on Kevin Henkes. It’s 4 hours a day and I love the program. It’s a nice break from the rigorous schedule I have all school year and I get to teach a new crop of kiddos.

The Littles
My days have been spent with these little cuties. They are completely fearless and everything is an adventure. Particularly swimming. We’ve been sticking to the sprinkler & dumping buckets of water on one another.

Treats
We’ve been busy making treats around here. With temperatures up over 100, it was impossible to even think about preheating the oven to a million degrees. We settled on popsicles- my goodness I almost forgot how much I love frozen treats.

Oh and who could forget swimming and organizing? I wonder if there's a way for me to swim while organizing...

No More Slacking

found on google

I am so sorry that I've neglected my blog baby for so long. If this were a relationship, I would have been dumped already. I hope you'll forgive me. I'm going to update soon with excuses and stuff. Don't give up on me! Okay, I love you all now go enjoy the heat wave & do something awesome.

little lists

I am a neurotic list maker. I make lists of things I need to make lists about & it's a little out of control. For example, when I'm going to clean, I make one list with all the supplies that I need to do different cleaning jobs and then I make a list of the things that I need to clean. There's something so great about checking things off your To Do list, isn't there? Here are some free printables that you too can call your very own:

Over at paper glitter you can download this super cute printable for my favorite price: $0.

Or perhaps you need to conquer some projects?

What is on your list of things that need a list?

let's kick the tires & light the fires

Happy 4th of July, friends! I hope you had an absolutely wonderful long weekend full of soaking up the sun & eating tasty food. To steal a line from the movie Independence Day {did that really come out in 1996?!}, "Let's kick the tires & light the fires!" I know I'm prepared for whatever July is going to bring. Today was also Igby's Independence Day. Yes Igby was allowed to venture outside where he promptly rolled around in the dirt, sniffed leaves, and looked adorable.
Anyway, I wore a pair of shorts on Saturday {slap my hand} because babysitting & frolicking with 2 kids under 5 is hard work and it's even more difficult when you can't run around outside with them. I gave it a shot- it was okay but not really much different than the days where I'm partaking in the "challenge." So I'm back and working on Day 9 even though I really did love being able to wear shorts, a tank, & a blazer. Here are days 7 & 8- please excuse Day 7's dress wrinkles :) This is what happens when you're sitting for a while... also when you don't bother with ironing.

Day 7 & I'm not sure why my foot looks the way it does, but it's a little bit awesome and a lot bit creepy.

What the heck?! My skirt looks wrinkled in this picture, but I promise it wasn't! I do own & operate my iron on a regular basis.
I got this clutch from Target for a mere $2.49. Loves it.

Color Combo

I love the pink & navy blue color combo so I figured I would give it a try. I never wear this shirt and I know why. There's something about it that just doesn't feel right. I don't even know why I own it but my guess is that top ruffle. I love the skirt & the shoes though!

Is everyone ready for their long 4th of July weekend? I can't believe that it's already that time of year- before we know it winter will be around the corner. Yikes.

How stinking cute is this little girl's headscarf?
