another awkward & awesome thursday

I haven't done an awkward & awesome in a while, so I figured I would do one today. It also helps that my head is full of random little thoughts that I think you need to know. I've been falling behind on my plan for at least 3 outfit posts a week. Bear with me, it's been rainy & gray and I've been dressing in a fashion that's appropriate for cleaning... so... naked.

Awkward:
- Repeatedly elbowing my pregnant sister in the belly while trying to get out of her way.
- Lock jaw when I'm about to eat a tasty, tasty meal. This, of course, results in me not being able to chew said meal. Sigh.
- When you buy something at a thrift store & the cashier stares at it trying to figure out if it's a child's clothing item or not. I like polka dots, okay!?!?!
- Washing the kitchen floor {or doing anything, really} while listening to your ipod and twirling around to see people awkwardly walking by your window. You didn't like my rendition of the Banger Sisters' Fire? I guess I should stick to singing in the shower only...
- Getting stalked by my cat. You need to follow me everywhere, Igby? Really?

Awesome:
- Manchester FINALLY got a Goodwill and it's just up the road from the mall.
- In 2 weeks, I'm going to meet my little niece Zoey!
- I have top secret information coming to you next week. Top secret awesome information?
- Pinterest. Seriously, I can't get enough of it & I might need rehab.
- Glee. It's back & I'm stoked.
- New recipes for whoopie pies. Whoopie!
- Finally FINALLY getting a crinoline. All of my skirts just got infinitely more fabulous.
- Planning a tea party-themed sprinkle & honey bee themed shower. Can it be my birthday so I can have my own party now?

P.S. I'm tumbling now. Are you?

awkward & awesome thursday- thrift edition

I have decided to revamp Awkward & Awesome Thursday just a tad for the day. With my sister & niece in tow I visited two local consignment shops and took photos of some of the goodies that I found. The good, the bad, and the insanely awesome.

I'm not even going to label anything, just decide for yourself. Without further ado:

80s prom dress

intense sequin action

This is a push cart, but it reminds me of a wheelchair that you would have seen in A Secret Garden.

I definitely had a girl version of this after I split my head open when I was, like, 4 years old. I think I loved her.

Handmade sweater clips. I wish I could have gotten some close-ups.

I think we can figure out which category this glorious head falls into.

The mannequin in the back just makes this photo even better.

All the hats were teeny tiny... or my head is abnormally large. No, the hats were the freaks.

With new upholstery, this looks like it wants to come home with me.

This whole thing was sequined.

Vintage aprons. They're awesome, let's not kid ourselves.

This was labeled as a "black bonnet" and had a price tag of $42.50.

I'm going back for these tulip earrings. They want to be mine. Their dealer is "Nana" and even she wants me to have them.

This Mickey view master is very large & I didn't see any discs to go with it.

This owl cookie jar has been at the consignment shop for almost 6 months now. WHY IS NO ONE BUYING THIS?!

I think this beaded collar was handmade because everything around it was & it seems to make sense.

What do you think, peoples? Which things are awesome & which are awkward according to you?

Awkward & Awesome Thursday

Awkward

- Typing a sentence and having it come out all discombobulated like so: Trtubg ti taje iytfut ou.
- Attempting to take a photo outside without a tripod & with my laptop on Photobooth instead. Terrible, terrible decision-making & planning. Ending up taking a photo inside with terrible lighting in front of my bedroom door. #Winning
- Realizing that I own a skirt that is technically an antique. This is only awkward because I purchased it myself from an Abercrombie back when I liked Abercrombie... oh high school.
- Butt-sniffing dogs. I'm sorry but this is awkward no matter what, but especially when it's a dog who has gotten loose from his yard and most especially when you are wearing a short skirt.
- Saying stupid things like, "Time for the bed to get a watch- heh" while in a sleep-induced stupor.
- When I take my niece & nephew to a store or a restaurant and someone comments on my figure after 2 children. The conversation usually consists of me telling them thank you, yes they are adorable, and I didn't actually have the 2 children, but thank you. They always look uncomfortable and I always think maybe I should have just let them believe I bounced back that quickly.
-The buzzing my dryer makes when the laundry is dry- it doesn't stop on its own anymore.

Awesome

+ Getting my {beautiful} scarf from Danielle at Mrs. Yancey Goes to Birmingham. I love it!
+ Finding all the thrift stores in my local area & coming up with a plan to visit & dominate them.
+ McDonald's smoothies. My goodness they are delicious & I've become a junkie
+ New sketchpads & brilliant ideas <3
+ My friend Jess organizing a craft fair at the local school very close to Christmas & the pictures that have been posted of all the great merchandise.
+ Ordering from amazon Prime. 2 day shipping is the bee's knees.
+ Finding a package of Polaroid film that I didn't know I had. Don't you just love pleasant surprises?
+ Speaking of pleasant surprises: The Oscar de la Renta scarf I found at Goodwill. If I tell you the price, you won't even believe it & you'll come up here to scour the place for more.
+ Fun phone apps like Words With Friends & Cestos.

And here's me pondering life's big mysteries:

Awkward & Awesome Thursday

It is Thursday & therefore time for another awkward & awesome post. Given today's events, this post couldn't have happened at a better time.

Awkward

-Telling 23 kids that they can only have one piece of pizza & then having them catch me eating my second piece. I tried rationalizing with them that a) they had lunch & pizza and I didn't and b) I was the one who bought the pizza so my hypocrisy was okay.
-Opening a bottle of soda while at a stoplight only to have it spray out unlike anything I've ever seen. Dr Pepper all over my steering wheel, seat, door, shirt, & pretty new silk skirt. Did I mention that after it happened I went from having a look of horror to laughing pathetically only to see the lady & her kid in the car next to me looking at me?
-White pants. Seriously, I'm just not meant to wear white. Disaster always ensues. I think I've said enough.
-Listening to "big wigs" {hate the term} from the state & the school district talk about the importance of the 200 people they are in talks to lay off.
-Accidentally confessing to a group of very serious adults that not only do I watch the Disney channel but I always watched IParty with Victorious. Good thing YOU aren't very serious adults.

Awesome
-My niece & her friend coming over to get outdoor toys and deciding they were going to hang out at my apartment then requesting that I play Lady Gaga. Yes!
-Finding a great scarf for a blogger scarf swap { I fibbed, I'm going to tell you about it tomorrow- for real.}
-Summer vacation. I can only imagine all the possibilities & I cannot wait.
-The feeling of health after a treacherous cold or flu. It's like you can't imagine when you ever felt 100% and then suddenly you're a new person.
-Hobby Lobby. The new one finally opened & I'm nervous to even go in because I don't want to fall in love or be disappointed. The idea of Hobby Lobby is enough for me... for now.

Awkward & Awesome Thursday

Awkward:
-Wearing a beautiful, flowy top that got tons of compliments and then sitting on the floor with kids and remembering exactly how flowy it is.
- Watching my cat scratch at my file folder tote, getting annoyed, then realizing I forgot to change the litter box.
-Putting my wet hair up in a ponytail, taking it down during the day and having a student stare at me with a frightened look and asking, "What IS wrong with your HAIR?"
-Sitting in line at the atm for 15 minutes while the guy in front of me has gone through backward, has his hatch open and isn't even sitting in his car. Then I finally just stormed {can you really storm in a car?} off and went across town to use the Bank of America atm.
-Folding my underwear and then realizing that my sister is sitting next to me and probably doesn't want to see my panties on display.

Awesome:
-Hobby Lobby finally coming to town. It's even better than Santa Claus!
-Temperatures hitting 90 + degrees after what felt like months of rain.
-Hitting shuffle on my ipod and having a series of blast from the past gems that I had forgotten about.
-Enjoying some time to myself where I can read magazines that I've neglected, work on my inspiration boards, update my blog, and get mani-pedis.
-Smoothies. They're delicious no matter where they're from.
-Going to The Christmas Tree Shoppe with Kristin & scoring a plethora of gluten free goodies.
