Awkward & Awesome Thursday

Awkward

- Typing a sentence and having it come out all discombobulated like so: Trtubg ti taje iytfut ou.
- Attempting to take a photo outside without a tripod & with my laptop on Photobooth instead. Terrible, terrible decision-making & planning. Ending up taking a photo inside with terrible lighting in front of my bedroom door. #Winning
- Realizing that I own a skirt that is technically an antique. This is only awkward because I purchased it myself from an Abercrombie back when I liked Abercrombie... oh high school.
- Butt-sniffing dogs. I'm sorry but this is awkward no matter what, but especially when it's a dog who has gotten loose from his yard and most especially when you are wearing a short skirt.
- Saying stupid things like, "Time for the bed to get a watch- heh" while in a sleep-induced stupor.
- When I take my niece & nephew to a store or a restaurant and someone comments on my figure after 2 children. The conversation usually consists of me telling them thank you, yes they are adorable, and I didn't actually have the 2 children, but thank you. They always look uncomfortable and I always think maybe I should have just let them believe I bounced back that quickly.
-The buzzing my dryer makes when the laundry is dry- it doesn't stop on its own anymore.

Awesome

+ Getting my {beautiful} scarf from Danielle at Mrs. Yancey Goes to Birmingham. I love it!
+ Finding all the thrift stores in my local area & coming up with a plan to visit & dominate them.
+ McDonald's smoothies. My goodness they are delicious & I've become a junkie
+ New sketchpads & brilliant ideas <3
+ My friend Jess organizing a craft fair at the local school very close to Christmas & the pictures that have been posted of all the great merchandise.
+ Ordering from amazon Prime. 2 day shipping is the bee's knees.
+ Finding a package of Polaroid film that I didn't know I had. Don't you just love pleasant surprises?
+ Speaking of pleasant surprises: The Oscar de la Renta scarf I found at Goodwill. If I tell you the price, you won't even believe it & you'll come up here to scour the place for more.
+ Fun phone apps like Words With Friends & Cestos.

And here's me pondering life's big mysteries:

Work & Play

So, all right, I have another dress for you today. I attempted to be a little more adventurous, but the look just didn't suit the fact that it was summer. I looked like I was about to go to a job interview. Has anyone else noticed that since they entered the working world their closets have transformed significantly? Gone are the days of short jean skirts from Abercrombie, tweed pencil skirts from Ann Taylor are more my flavor. This wouldn't be so bad if I hadn't switched over to work-appropriate tops, too. Let me tell you that what's work-appropriate isn't necessarily what I want to wear all summer long.

Does it sound like I'm complaining? I'm really not trying to, I just want to explain why I've only been wearing dresses so far. It's more that I'm making excuses- albeit legitimate ones. But, doesn't this look like something a modern day Wilma Flintstone would wear? Have I mentioned how much I like this shade of yellow?  I love this shade of yellow. You know what else I love? You don't, but fear not! I'm about to tell you that I love 90s television shows. Melrose place in particular. Acid wash jeans, terrible haircuts, high-waisted shorts with elastic waistbands, the list goes on an on. Really, what's not to love?

Oh and I, of course had to go to imdb immediately when I saw that Vanessa Williams was one of the cast members. Wrong V. Williams.

Lookbook: Yesterday & Today

Even though I posted about cupcakes yesterday, I should still have posted yesterday's outfit. Whoops. It was a Liberty of London for Target gem that I picked up to wear to a bridal shower. I almost didn't buy it because all the reviews said that if you have wide hips they'll just look bigger. I took the chance & bought it anyway. I'm glad I did, it's a fan favorite.

I went with another dress today. So far in this little endeavor I haven't strayed into the realm of creative and I'll have to remedy that. Summer has been wonderful for rolling out of bed and spending the days doing arts & crafts, reading, watching teeny bopper shows, and hanging out with my amazing little niece & nephew. These lazy days don't really lend themselves to much more and I love it. The next thing on my agenda is to get some sun on those extremely white legs of mine.

Kyleigh decided that she wanted to guest pose for some photos today. My sister Terri made the bracelet I'm wearing & I couldn't get any good pictures of it, but I will. Oh will I ever.

Cupcakes FTW

Here is a well-known fact about me: I love cupcakes. I like baking them. I like frosting them. I like eating them. I like looking at things adorned with cupcake images. I like owning things adorned with cupcake images. So it should be no surprise that on a recent trip to Barnes & Noble {I love that place, don’t you?} I was perusing the value priced books and came across this gem:
Oh la la! For $7, it had to be mine. I’ll just add it to my cookbook collection

You might be wondering how many cupcake recipe books a person can own before they all start to look the same. I'll tell you, friends, they aren't all created equal that's for sure. Hello Cupcake is one that is full of eye candy, but unless you have a monstrous sweet tooth, you probably aren't going to be eating most of the cupcakes featured. Luckily, I do have a sweet tooth & an eye for over the top confections. The Cupcake Bible; however, has more basic recipes. Here are a few that caught my eye and therefore MUST be made promptly:

Pretzel dragonflies? I love it!

Pink lemonade cupcakes with little straws? Yes!
Bite-sized doughnuts covered in scrumptious cinnamon.
Whoopie pie cupcakes taste oh so yummy!

yay sunny day sunday!

I missed a blog on Friday because that's how I roll- I wouldn't want to get too predictable on you.

Today kicks off my 30 days of skirts & dresses. It's not really a challenge but I need to start out small. Would you want me trembling in my cute shimmery shoes? I thought not. So, 30 days of skirts & dresses & 30 images of me in these skirts & dresses. This could get interesting because I'm supposed to go to the zoo tomorrow AND it has been cold, rainy, & all around ick-tacular here in New Hampshire. Today was the first glimmer of hope that maybe we are going to feel a summer. I just love this dress. It's actually a long-sleeve dress & it feels very mod.
Can you see the specks of gold? I love them!
These are my latest favorite shoes.

Here's to hoping the weather warms up. Oh and while we're in a hoping mood, do you think we could possibly hope that the cake store has some really great quins that want to come home with me? Also, let's hope that True Blood is full of entertainment & slightly less mystical magical mumbo jumbo than in the last season, ok?

Here I am job hunting/web surfing/ writing a letter to my sweet little niece while she's in Virginia.

Has anyone else seen The Little Mermaid as many times as I have? There's a three-year-old girl in my life who is making it so, I can't lie, I'm hating the sound of Flounder's voice.

i love glitter

It's nearly impossible to get good photos since it has been gray & rainy for the past few days. It's days like today {yesterday, and from what I can tell tomorrow, too} that I just want to sprinkle glitter all over the world. Let's do that, yes?
It is my life's mission to find, own, & wear these shorts... every single day of my life.
Cupcakes & glitter? Are there things more amazing than these?

This is pretty, but have you ever gotten glitter in your eye? It hurts like nothing else.

I got all the images from Pinterest which if you aren't using you MUST start. You can keep everything pretty in one place & share the pretty. Isn't sharing the best?

stores i love: J.Crew

I know that I've raved about by unrivaled love for Anthropologie once or twice but I'm not sure that I've ever mentioned my obsession with J.Crew. When I get my Anthropologie catalogs in the mail {yes, I get 2... don't judge} I devour one and leave it on my coffee table with little flags on all the things I want. The second one is cut up & added to my inspiration book, which is what I do when I get the J.Crew catalog. I'll tell you more about them another time & I'll even get some pictures.

Anyway, J.Crew makes some quality clothing but can we take a moment to admire their models, styling, & their use of Nars Heatwave? I can thank this store for my {sometimes sick} obsession with orange lipstick.

I lovc the yellow & pink in this outfit & the messy hair. Love.
Cute, non?
Holy moly. It's like Khaleesi from Game of Thrones is donning a sweet blazer.
These paperbag style shorts with scalloped bottoms MUST belong to me.

The color blocking in these 2 makes my heart pound wildly.
I need to do more color blocking in my outfits. Have you ever seen anyone pull
off orange lipstick any better?!
Perfect, perfect, perfect.
I can't wait until my hair is longer.
Ka-UUUUUUTE!

Stay Classy: Collection #1

Yesterday was my last official day as a long-term sub. I have no idea what is going to happen in September. Aside from a month long summer class, I have no idea what I'm going to be doing this summer either. What I do know is that I'm going to require some unofficial days to clean out my room. Here's what it looks like right now:

Yikes, right? Too bad putting up & taking down classrooms can't be a full-time job. Anyway, I was far too exhausted yesterday to post & I'm feeling a little bit run-down from the job hunt and end of the year activities. Fear not because from here on out it's wide-awake & positive posting.

I thought I would use the scarf swap as an excuse to start showing you some of my collections of random things. So, the first thing I've decided to share with you is my scarf collection. There are a few that aren't in the picture but they aren't any less loved than the others { promise }. Also, I got my blogger match for the swap today & I'm hoping to introduce you to her this week:)

I store them on my dresser in very cute paper suitcases that I purchased from here and here

Also, are you enjoying your first day of summer? I spent it at the pool in my sister's condo complex. <3
